Why I Created This Blog

¡Hola, Bienvenidos a todos!

I am in my fourth year of school majoring in Education and Spanish. I'm from Minnesota and am about to embark on a life changing experience, immersing myself in the language, culture, and pura vida of Costa Rica!

My ultimate goal of going to Costa Rica is to become fluent in speaking Spanish. But along the way, I am going to be visiting a very close friend from high school, experiencing Costa Rican Independence Day and Christmas, traveling to three countries and living on the beach. Oh, and I am taking classes in a university in the capital city, but it goes without debate, most of my learning will be experienced when I am not in a classroom but around the friendly Ticos (name Costa Rican's call themselves) and being out on adventures.

If you're reading this, I miss you, so do your best to let me know what you're up to! And I'll do my best filling you in on my adventures :)

Week of Small Adventures at 'Home'

Playing monopoly with the boys of the family, my brothers from the left- Franz hijo, Johan, and Werner and not pictured is their uncle, mamatica's brother. I grew up an only child always wanting siblings and now I have four! Plus four other students that I live with...that makes nine kids, two dogs, and two parents with family members and neighbors coming in and out all the time.

Mayita kept me company on the road trip I took with my hermana-tica, Diana on our way to the beach! We went with the two dogs and her boyfriend, Sebastien. On the way to the beach, we stopped at a bridge that offers BUNGEE JUMPING!! But that was just for Sebas, neither Diana nor I nor the dogs went bungee jumping. But just FYI, even if you are in a wheelchair, you can go bungee jumping. I saw where they tied the entire wheelchair person sitting in it and everything wrapped up in bungees.

Diana with the dogs Maya and Pelusa.
Ready to jump?!
We met up with a couple of Sebas's friends who also wanted to go bungee jumping.

Sometimes we have nothing to do at night...so when there was a party going on next door and the cops were called by the other neighbor, we had heard that apparently it was a drug bust...so two cop cars came and parked outside our house, so we came outside to sit and watch, and eat ice cream! As if it were a movie...haha....and turns out...the neighbors were just sitting on the roof to look at the stars!

I'm not going to go into details, but I had a malaria scare a couple weeks ago. I was worried I had malaria or dengue fever, but it turned out it wasn't that serious. I had to go to the hospital, get a shot in the butt, pee in a cup, and get my blood drawn, but it was just a bad infection in the kidneys. It did keep me completely in bed for a week and not eating anything. So I lost about 5 pounds and Maya kept me company on the last few days when I was feeling better. Here we are watching Glee on my laptop.

When I slept, she slept. She's a good buddy to have when sick, although a little needy. Always wanting a belly rub. I didn't get one of those...I was the sick one...thanks a lot Maya.

When I was sick, I sure caught up on all TV shows and other things electronic. (Definitely not in the "to-do-in-Costa-Rica plans", which made me feel increasingly guilty)  but I watched every episode up to date of Modern Family and Glee and also, although I never played a single computer game on facebook, I created a WeTopia (as seen on Ellen...it gives to charities just by playing, check it out!), a castle in Castleville, a city in Cityville, a SimsSocial, and a Pioneer Trail.
